Accelerated Reader

Accelerated reader is accessed by all pupils at Eden to support improvements in reading skills. Pupils complete a baseline STAR assessment, giving an overall reading age, reading target and appropriate book titles to choose from. Pupils then complete termly STAR reading tests so that progress can be closely monitored and additional intervention can be initiated if necessary.

Pupils then complete a quiz on the books they have read and are rewarded with certificate for reaching the word milestones outlined below. Pupils need to score 60% or more on the test to achieve a pass.

• Bronze – 10,000
• Silver – 25,000 
• Gold – 50,000
• Ruby – 100,000
• Sapphire – 250,000                   
• Emerald – 500,000 words
• Amethyst – 750,000                 
• Millionaire – 1,000,000 words

Pupils’ achievements are celebrated with a monthly prize and certificates which are displayed on our reading board.
