Curriculum at Eden School

Our aim at Eden School is to provide an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum that will challenge every student and allow all, regardless of ability to achieve their full potential.  At Eden we know that our curriculum needs to be balanced equally between academic success and personal attributes. We are determined that our students will be well equipped for the next stage of their education or training. We are passionate about ensuring our students leave with the skills to be able to be successful in the community they live in.

At Key Stage 2 we follow the national curriculum with a strong emphasis on reading.

At Key Stage 3 as well as the core subjects of English, maths and science, all students study creative arts, the humanities, technology, computing and PE. An extended Key Stage 3 now ensures that students experience a wider range of subjects thus allowing students to make a more informed choice in Key Stage 4. Some of our students benefit from starting Key Stage 4 and GCSEs in Year 9 if they are more able.

We know our students very well; this means that we are able to personalise options for our Key Stage 4 cohort.  At Key Stage 4, students study GCSE’s and vocational qualifications.  In Year 11 we focus on a successful post-16 transition into education, employment and training for all students and our CEIAG programme includes arranging work experience places.

All our students study PSHE which includes SMSC programme and specific lessons of SRE.  This is an essential aspect of the curriculum for our students given many may have not previously accessed this.  In addition to these lessons, SMSC is embedded into planning within the other curriculum subjects.
